Happy Christmas Gift Box from Lush

Every year, the Lush Christmas Collection gets me all giddy. I love the holidays, I adore Lush, so combine the two and I'm a happy camper! Each year, the collection gets better and better and I make sure that some (well... a lot) of the items are on my Christmas list. I'm very fortunate enough to say that Lush sent me the Happy Christmas box for my review! I am extremely flattered that they thought of me and thrilled to review some more of their incredible products!

When the dark days of winter have got you feeling a little gloomy, Happy Christmas' flamboyant rock-star inspired hat box is sure to lighten the mood. With glittery top and neon dots, this unconventional box hints at the fun, refreshing treats inside: citrusy soaps, scrubs, moisturizers and message bars will get skin feeling fresh and beautifully moisturized. A fantastic selection of seasonal and year-round favorites, Happy Christmas is sure to keep showers bright and cherry well into the new year! (quoted from the Lush Cosmetics website)

So how are the products in the box? Well... it's certainly a great selection! Let's start off with Sandy Santa! I was most excited about this product! Just look at it... it's adorable! It seems as though this product is back by popular demand, as consumers fell in love with it last year. Just dampen your skin and scrub all over! The sand and sugar buffs and polishes dull winter skin to reveal a bright, toned complexion. This year, Lush has added coconut oil, murumuru and Shea butters so that skin feels even softer and moisturized. The orange, rose and sandalwood oils not only tones and softens, but smells absolutely amazing. I'm usually not into citrus scents, but this is subtle enough where I certainly don't mind.

Next up, we have Ponche Shower Gel. I must admit, I'm not a huge fan of the Lush shower gels. Not sure why. They smell good and feel nice, I just tend to use the body wash I've been using for years. Old habits I guess. Anywho... this shower gel is inspired by traditional Mexican Punch! I actually take a bit of the gel and put it in the bath when I'm not in the mood to use a bath bomb or bubble bar, but want to relax. I feel like I'm bathing in a citrus margarita (and I loooove my margaritas).

Each Peach is part of Lush's permanent collection, but for Happy Christmas, they've molded this little guy into a happy smiley face! HOW CUTE! I really do enjoy the massage bars. My very first bar was Tiny Hands and I loved it! In fact, I think it was one of my first Lush products (oh memories). Anyways, like I said, all of the massage bars are suburb, making skin feel extremely soft. The fruity avocado and mango kernel butters are mixed with cocoa and shea butter and smells ah-mazing!

Celebrate good times, come on!!! Yes... I just broke out in song...I'm insane! Celebrate has been a best-seller in Japan for years and has been brought to the USA, just for Christmas! Celebrate softens the skin with almond oil and cocoa butter and a blend of orange flower, lime, benzoin and cognac oil is what makes it smell amazing!

We all love karma, whether it's good or bad, but the good version comes in the form of soap. I haven't tried many of Lush's soaps, but when I go into a shop and smell some out of curiosity, they're nearly intoxicating! Karma has a very unique scent, containing a blend of spicy patchouli, lemongrass, orange and pine oils. I just love the concoctions Lush comes up with! Who thinks of this stuff? That's right... THEY DO!

Finally... Mr. Punch... my favorite (and only soap I've used) from Lush! I bought a chunk of this fine sir last year when Lush was having their end of year bo-go sale. You want to talk yummy... this soap is beyond delicious! A fresh mix of lime oil, juniper berries and splash of gin is what creates this incredible fragrance! Besides the scent, I just love the look of it! it looks like it has fruit inside! So awesome! After use, my house was filled with this fresh, sweet smell! We loved it!

I think this box is sort of ironic because I mentioned early that I'm not into citrus scents, yet every product has something orange. Interesting that I really like most of the products considering my opinion. They just really smell delicious and fresh!
I apologize for the long review. I have been trying really hard to keep my posts short and sweet, but I wanted to be sure to give you a little inside scoop about each one of these products.

Hello Miss Niki's Holiday Gift Guide for the Beauty Lover

$

I am so excited about this post! Holiday Gift Guide for the Beauty Lover... what's not to love? It was really difficult trying to figure out what I wanted on this list. After putting much thought into it, I really wanted to narrow it down to beauty items only. I wanted to include accessories, home decor, etc., but it would have been a super long list! I think that I've made a pretty decent holiday guide, so check it out! Happy Shopping!

Items that I've selected are items that I would personally love to receive. Many of the items on the list are good for anyone who loves makeup, so I believe that I've captured many tastes. Products were selected from some of my favorite stores like Sephora, Ulta, Nordstrom, Macy's and more!

Need some more ideas? Check out some of my other items from Sigma Beauty and Lush Cosmetics! I created a Sigma Beauty Holiday Gift Guide a few weeks ago and any makeup lover would be happy with their brushes and cosmetics. And... well... Lush... you know how much I adore Lush! Any goodie from their Christmas collection would make me happy!

I could have gone on and on with gifts, but the server was only able to handle so much (dang Blogger). Either way, I think there are some pretty cool items on this list and hopefully you or the lovely individual you are buying for will enjoy these holiday goodies!

Functional Girl & Simmang Design Create Groundbreaking Plus-Size Editorial

Up and coming jewelry designer Jillian Simmang has partnered with girl power crusaders Functional Girl to create a jewelry editorial that unapologetically celebrates plus-size beauty.

Hair & Make-Up by Plunder Me Beauty, Photo by Nichole Christine

"It’s very rare to see a genuinely plus-size model in a style editorial, much less one who hasn’t been retouched to remove any trace of the elements that make her plus-size." says Functional Girl Founder and former Elite model CJ Legare. "There is a pervasive idea within the fashion industry that plus-size models can’t be too plus-size, because their images don’t move product. The agents blame the clients and the clients blame the consumers, but let me ask you this: If your body-type was only ever presented as a flaw that needs to be corrected or draped in garish moo-moos and shapeless loungewear, would you buy those clothes? Would you want to spend your money to look like that?”

Enter Simmang Design. After meeting at 2012 Austin Fashion Week, Jillian and CJ knew they had to collaborate. "I think women need to be reminded that they were once young and unafraid.” says Simmang. “I wanted to feature a unique model who would encourage women to embrace everything that makes them one-of-a-kind. Simmang Design isn’t just jewelry. It’s a statement and a state of mind, meant to be worn by any woman, at any time.

The editorial appears in Functional Girl’s online magazine PINC: The Business of Being A Girl. Their goal is to create content that will empower women to celebrate themselves, embrace sisterhood and live life on their own terms. The Whole Simmang is a collection of beautifully unique jewelry on a beautifully unique woman, but it’s also an idea that we can redefine female culture by celebrating the authentic beauty that is inherent in every woman.

A Note from Miss Niki: CJ was kind enough to send me this press release the other night and I had to share! CJ, the Functional Girl Team and Jilian Simmang... YOU ROCK!!! This is such an incredible new venture and I wish you all nothing but the best.
And a special shout out to Netera Pratt who modeled for these gorgeous photos! Work it, girl! You're beautiful and should be so proud!

A Very Special (& Simple) DIY Christmas Ornament

The other night was very emotional for me, as I finally decided to take apart the bouquet I held for my sister's wedding. It's been sitting in my living room, flowers drying out since November 1st, and I didn't have it in me to throw it away. Most of you know that my sister got married (after all... I was obsessed with this wedding for months). I wanted to hold onto this wedding and cherish not only a memory, but something else from that special day. Thank goodness for Pinterest because now I will have something forever.

While browsing through Pinterest, like I always do, I came across a simple DIY project that enabled brides, bridesmaids, Mother-of-the-Brides (or grooms) to cherish something beautiful from the wedding day. I found a photo from Weddings A Beautiful that displayed the project below:

BINGO! What a brilliant idea! Christmastime is my favorite, most cherished time of the year, and what better way to remember my sister's wedding day than by a gorgeous, unique Christmas ornament? PERFECT!

It's simple and I don't even need step-by-step photo instructions! Just go to your local art supply store; buy empty glass ornaments; break apart and crumble up the pieces from a bouquet or centerpiece (be careful, it's quite messy); and fill the ornament! See... simple! And a nice finishing touch... I added the fabric that was holding the bouquet together as the accessory that will hang the ornament. Preciousness!

Although it was my bouquet, I decided to make my mother and sister an ornament as well. I wanted them to have a little something special from that day and I think this might be it! Yes - we have the incredible memories, but something small, yet meaningful like this is perfect for the holidays!

Lush Golden Wonder Bath Bomb (Favorite of the Season)

That's right... my favorite! For fall, I adored Lord of Misrule and this time around, I am loving Golden Wonder from Lush! I've mentioned numerous times (you're probably sick of hearing it) that the Lush Christmas collection makes me happy. From the scents to designs of the products, their awesome! Even if you don't particularly like Lush, you have to admit that their products are adorable. If you don't... you have no soul. Here I go again with the drama! Where can I pick up my Academy Award? Lush was kind enough to send me this awesome bath bomb for my evaluation and review, and again, I am super pleased (shocking).
Source:LushUK

Golden Wonder is back again this year and we can’t wait to hop in the tub with this fizzy golden gift! It simply wouldn’t be a LUSH Christmas without soaking in its soft citrus fragrance; a gorgeous, uplifting blend of sweet orange, lime and cognac oils. Drop this best-seller in your bath and watch it put on a colorful show as the vibrant gifts inside reveal themselves and leave you with soft, champagne-scented skin.

  • Unwrap a surprise: Golden Wonder contains colorful fizzy gifts that reveal themselves at bathtime.
  • Keeping spirits bright: Sweet orange oil brightens your mood on the darkest of winter days.
  • Let the good times flow: Golden Wonder features our champagne-inspired Snowshowers fragrance.
So yeah... this bath bomb smells great. I'm not a huge fan of citrus scents, but this product has an ever so slight aroma, just enough for it to smell delicious and not overpowering. The design of Golden Wonder is a cute little gold present topped with a white bow. It was a bit messy, as gold powder stuck to my hands after pickup up the bath bomb, but I don't necessarily call that a problem.

You would think that your bath water would turn gold, right? Well... sort of. Even better! When dropped into the water, the bath bomb starts to fizz and the water turns gold, but while this is happening, little dissolvable stars are released and fill the bathtub. As if that's not cool enough, the bath suddenly turns blue, then pink with a hint of green and then settles to a beautiful aqua blue with golden shimmer.

* Please excuse the poor quality of the photos. They were taking with my iPhone for Instagram. Thank you! *

Seriously... so much fun! Most of the Lush Bath Bombs smell very nice, but some are sort of anti-climatic and just turn the water one subtle color (again... some). But this one... well it's awesome. It smells good, it's adorable and you feel like a princess taking a bath. What's not to love?

Lush’s Golden Wonder Bath Bomb is part of the Lush Christmas 2013 Collection and is available at your local Lush store and online at LushUSA.com for $6.95.

DIY Glitter Holiday Party Pumps

$

One of the best parts of the holiday season is the glitz and glam! It's the one time of year where you can class up an outfit with glitters and truly get away with it! I wanted to have a bit of fun with a pair of old pumps that I had, so I figured I would spice things up a bit! I am very basic with the shoes I wear. I feel like I am the only girl in the world that doesn't go absolutely bonkers over shoes, so I may not necessarily wear these shoes that I made. However, once they are cleaned up, they are so much fun to keep in my home work station and keep on display!

Things you'll need (I can't believe I forgot to photograph the items... AGAIN!!!):
  • 1 Pair of pumps (any color)
  • Paint (any color)
  • Glitter (any type)
  • Paint Brushes
  • Elmer's glue
  • Paper plate
  • Paper towels
  • Q-Tips

1) Before you do anything, take a paper towel and wipe down the shoes so they're nice and clean!

2) Pour a little bit of your favorite color paint onto a paper plate. I decided to choose a deeper shade of red. What can I say, I wanted to channel Christian Louboutin!

3) Take a paintbrush and paint the soles of the shoes with two coats, waiting 20 minutes or so between each one.

I was sort of sloppy and not very precise around the edges, so I took a pointed Q-Tip and removed any paint that hit the leather (or rather, pleather) of the shoe.

4) Allow the soles to completely dry, by placing them on their side. A full 24 hours is recommended for drying time.

5) Once the paint is 100% dry, pour some Elmer's glue onto another paper plate.

6) Now take your handy-dandy paintbrush and cover the entire shoe with glue. Don't paint on the layer too thick... you don't want the glitter (next step) to bunch up!

7) TIME FOR THE GLITTER (YAY)!!!  This is the best, but messiest, part! Just take the glitter and pour all over! Simple as that! Make sure that all of the glue is covered. If there are some areas that need to be filled in, just take some in your hand and sprinkle it on. FYI - have a paper plate under the shoe so it can catch the glitter :)

I used Martha Stewart Craft Glitter in Onyx and it's so beautiful! The product line had so many amazing glitters, I kind of wanted them all!!!

8) Just set the shoes down and let it the glitter set. Once it is set, tap off the shoes to allow the excess glitter to fall off. Wipe down the inside of the shoes, so you don't get glitter toes, and you should be good to go!

So much fun, right? Yes, it's a messy project, and glitter will still fall off the shoes afterwards, but what a cool and pretty project! I would defiantly have some fun and wear these with a classic black dress and bold red lips!

STEAMCREAM: My Answer to Dry Winter Skin

$

0
Well, hello my loves! Hope you all had a lovely holiday! I decided to take some time off and enjoy my family! My husband and I have been off from work so we have been enjoying the extra long weekend since Christmas. Time to get back to routine! I've been spending some time outside. Between going back and forth to holiday parties and waiting anxiously outside for Santa to arrive on the firetruck, my hands have certainly taken a beating. My skin is super dry and can use all the help it can get. Unfortunately, I always tend to neglect my hands, resulting in peeling knuckles and jagged cuticicles. Sexy, huh? I was contacted by STEAMCREAMa few weeks ago, as they wanted me to review and evaluate their product. This couldn't have come at a better time because I've been wanting to try something new.

For those of you who don't know what STEAMCREAM is, it's a cream handmade in the UK and Japan that uses a unique steaming process to enhance its effect on the skin. Most creams use complex molecules bound together that make the product sit on top of the skin without absorbing properly (learn more HERE). STEAMCREAM is all natural and uses calming essential oils to hydrate the skin.

First of all... let's talk about the adorable tins! If I wasn't sent this product and purchased it on my own, I would have probably bought it for the packaging alone! They're absolutely adorable! What I love most is that when I am finished with the cream, I can reuse the tin for storage... perhaps for jewelry. Love that! STEAMCREAM has not only collaborated with companies, like Swarovski, for example, to create these gorgeous tins, but they also have charity tins that raise money for a variety of organizations. STEAMCREAM was kind enough to send me the Thalia, the goddess of fertility and nature in Greek mythology. Her blessing brought lush blooming flowers to barren fields. Thalia's floral design is a tribute to Mother Nature and her Ancient Greek guise. A very well thought out design if I do say so myself!

Now let's talk about the cream itself. When I opened the tin, I instantly smelled a slight hint of citrus. I've mentioned in the past that I'm not a huge citrus fan, but it is subtle enough to enjoy and the overall scent is not overpowering.

At first I thought that the cream was going to be greasy and heavy because it's quite thick, but it's extremely lightweight and absorbs into the skin very quickly. Never judge a book by it's cover, I suppose.

My hands feel absolutely amazing! They're so soft and smooth and I can sit around for hours massaging my hands with this cream. It feels and smells so nice, I just can't get enough!

Each adorable tin is 75ml and can be purchased on the STEAMCREAMwebsite for $20.00. Seems a tad pricy, but certainly well worth it! As I mentioned earlier, it is handmade in the UK, but have no fear... FREE WORLDWIDE DELIVERY!!!

20 New Year's Beauty & Health Resolutions

$

I’m honestly not one to keep true to my New Year’s resolutions. I truly believe that’s because I don’t set realistic goals for myself and I’m confident that’s the reason why most people don’t stick to theirs. The slightest positive changes you make in your life during the new year could make a tremendous difference in the way you live. Here are some easy New Year’s resolutions that can improve your health and overall confidence!

1) Drink more water!
We've all heard "Drink 8 glasses of water a day"... but here is the real equation... take half your body weight and that is the number of ounces you should be drinking each day! It's difficult to stick to because we certainly don't enjoy peeing a thousand times a day, but the health benefits are endless. Plus... your skin will look AMAZING!

2) Wash your face every night!
Yes - I am talking to those women who enjoy the morning after smokey eyes... a look I went for myself when I was in high school. But it is important to rid your skin of the bacterias from the day. Feeling lazy? At least keep cleansing or makeup removal wipes on your nightstand. I enjoy washing my face with Purity by Philosophy.

3) Floss!
You heard me! FLOSS! I never keep up with this one either, but I feel like a million bucks after I decide to do it. I'm going to get gross right now! Don't floss much? When you finally decide to, sniff the floss after you've removed the gunk in between your teeth... you will now want to do it every day! I use Oral B Glide Pro-Health Floss Picks and love it!

4) Get rid of old makeup!
I'm a makeup hoarder! I keep products for as long as I possibly can because I can't find the means to part with them. It's an addiction I've come to terms with. However, I decided to free up some space the other day and I feel so much more organized now!

All the makeup I've decided to get rid of.
Farewell, my friends. Farewell...

5) Moisturize your hands
It's especially important in the Winter months to keep your hands moisturized. You don't want your skin to crack, do you? Get a non-greasy hand lotion and apply throughout the day. One of my favorite benefits of doing this is soft, good-lookin' cuticles! Check out my review on STEAMCREAM!

6) Exfoliate
This doesn't just apply to your face. Exfoliate your entire body! Washing away those dead, dry skin cells will make you feel like a new person! I enjoy Lush Ocean Salt Body & Face Scrub or Lush Rub-Rub-Rub.

7) Take your vitamins!
This is actually one thing I stick to all year round... a good vitamin regimen! It's important to take a multi-vitamin each day, but throw something else in the mix! I take Biotin to strengthen my hair and nails!

8) Clean your makeup brushes!
A task I admittedly don't do enough of! I adore my beloved makeup brushes, and it is very important to clean them. Bacteria sits in the brushes and they must be cleaned! To make the cleaning process easier, look into Sigma Beauty's Spa Brush Cleaning Glove and the Dry N' Shape. They make the chore faster and easier!

9) Use SPF
I cannot stress the important of using a daily SPF! Do I even need to get into it? Check out my post about preventing skin cancer and the importance of an SPF.

10) Give yourself breast exams!
Ladies... you need to do this! Don't think you're exempt if you're a spring chicken! My aunt was twenty-seven years old when she was diagnosed. DO IT! Don't know how? Read more HERE!

11) Get that booty moving!
Now this is one that I don't stick with and I have no problem admitting it! Should I get my ass in gear? Absolutely! It's important for your overall health and well-being!

12) Use a heat protectant in your hair
You must make this a step each time you decide to use a hair straightener, curling iron, blow dryer or any other heating device for your hair! Not only does it protect your hair, but I've noticed that since I've made it apart of my ever day routine, my hair is much easier to manage and style. I use TRESemme Keratin Smooth Heat Protection Shine Spray.

13) Wash your pillow case every week
This one may sound a bit odd, but it is indeed a must. You change your socks and underwear everyday, don't you? You sleep on your pillow for 6-8 hours a night. Sometimes you sweat, sometimes you don't wash your face (when you really should) and all that bacteria just sits on your pillow... every... single... night. So wash it!

14) Eat more fruits and veggies
I love to eat! In fact, I'm obsessed with eating! I love fruits and vegetables, but I honestly don't eat enough of them! This time of year, we all eat a lot of cakes and pies, cakes and pies, so it's time to get back on the wagon of eating healthy! Need something sweet... perhaps you can grab an apple instead. Easier said than done... I know...

15) Try new hairstyles
I'm happy to say that I have a new hairstyle without getting an actual haircut. Yes - go trim those ends once in awhile, but I decided to try something new and I feel so much better about myself! I admit it... I gained weight, so having my hair flat to my face made my head look bigger. No... not alien big, but I needed something much more flattering! Throwing a few wavy, soft curls in my hair with my Babyliss 1.5in. Curling Iron has made all the difference in the world!

16) Clean your cell phone!
If you only knew how many germs end up on your cell phone! Even I'm not exactly sure, but if I knew, I'm sure I would have a Clorox wipe in my hand every hour!

17) Try a beauty trend every month (or every other month) that scares you!
This is where the fun comes in? Like that turquoise nail polish in Glamour, but it freaks you out? Try it! Drawn to that faux-fur vest in Lucky, but don't think you can pull it off? Give it a shot! You may find that you rock it! If I didn't try red lipstick years ago, I would have never known how much I love it! Now I wear a red shade all year round!

18) Laugh more!
Did you know that children laugh about 300 times a day and adults laugh less than 20? That's sad! Take a few moments out of your day to watch something funny on YouTube or listen to a humorous song! It will change your mood in an instant! Looking for a laugh... try this video below. It gets me every time!

19) You need YOU time!
Sometimes, it's difficult to focus on yourself when you have so much going on in your life. However, it is important to give yourself some attention! Go for a walk, pamper yourself at the nail salon, mediate... anything that will relax you and make you feel happy!

20) Be confident... be you!
We all have times when we are self conscious about the way we look, or the way we feel. I've gained some weight over the past few months and admittedly, I've lost a bit of confidence. Every time I go out with friends, colleagues or even family, I am paranoid that they are focused on my weight gain, when in reality, who cares? Be yourself and love yourself! Life is too short and we only have one body. Love it and do what you want with it, as long as you're happy!

I think that this list included a range of options to make life changes in the new year! I'm not telling you to lose 50lbs in 2 months or work out 3 hours at the gym each day. Unrealistic! Set reasonable goals for yourself and you will notice a change, not only in yourself, but you are also setting an example for the people around you.

Happy New Year's Eve!!!

My, oh, my what a year it has been! It's funny because the year has gone so fast, I kind of forgot what has happened this year and what occured last year. Everything is starting to mesh! I guess that's one of the highlights to getting older.
Admitedly, I could have been more productive in the blogging world over the past year, but it is what it is. I've had a lot of personal things occur... all good, of course.
Like every year and for each one of you, we have our ups and downs. We refect on all the smiles and the tears, but no matter what, whatever has happened over the past year, it has made you the individual you are today.

While I may have stepped back a bit from blogging this year, I did have a few accomplishments that I am very proud of and that I enjoyed tremendously! I kicked off the year going to my very first launch party (for NYX Cosmetics Spring Collection, followed by a visit backstage at New York Fashion Week, experiencing IMATS NYC and ending the year finding my motivation at Lucky FABB, one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Over the past year, I have made some incredible connections, met some amazing people and I look forward to doing the same in 2014!
In the personal world, I kicked off the year with an awesome birthday party my husband threw me! It was my first big party in 10 years, so it was so great to have all of my friends come together and have a great time! Seems like more than a year ago, but it was certainly a fun time!

In May, I started my new job, which was incredible! As mentioned earlier in the year, I am slowly, but surely making my way into an industry that is "me" and that I enjoy! So far, it has been an incredibly rewarding experience and I'm blessed to have a fantastic team and awesome collegues.
And of course, we have my sister's wedding, which I'm sure you're sick of hearing me talk about! This wedding was all that was on my mind for months and it was amazing! I threw her an awesome shower with her fabulous bridesmaids and one hell of a bachelorette party! She was the most beautiful bride I have ever seen and I am beyond estatic that I played suge a huge role in her special day.

During the past year, I've also watched my nephew grow into a little boy! Yes - he is only a year old, but he doesn't seem like a baby anymore! He is growing into the sweetest little boy! I adore him so much and I hope one day he understands how much I love him.

I am fortunate enough to have my husband, my parents, my sister, my puppy, all four grandparents, aunts, uncles, a lot of cousins, in-laws, a beautiful baby nephew, two dog nieces, (maybe one dog nephew), the greatest friends and the most amazing fans, followers and readers.

So throughout the day, take a moment to remember the past year. Remember those you have lost, think about those you still have and think about what lies ahead of you for the next 365 days.

To everyone around the world... HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Best / Worst Drugstore Products of 2013

Hello, hello and Happy New Year! I wanted to kick off the New Year with a Best and Worst post for 2013! I try all types of makeup! Higher end, drugstore, independent brands... I've given them all a chance. I've learned that you can spend tons of money to get "OK" quality but save a bundle and get the best! It all depends and it's quite interesting to take a look back on the year and see what I purchased, what I enjoyed and what I didn't. Let's jump into this, shall we? ENJOY!!!

1. What was your favorite drugstore makeup brand of 2013?
That's simple! Rimmel London takes the cake! Rimmel has always been one of my favorite makeup brands, but I feel like they really outdid themselves this year. From the Lash Accelerator Endless Mascara (review HERE) to the Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal Eyeliner in Nude, I was impressed each time! Their NEW Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation, which, I believe, is now available (YAY) is awesome! I received a sample from Influenster and reviewed it a few months back (review HERE) and it's amazing! I have high end foundations that don't even compare to Rimmel's incredible coverage! When it's released, you must try it out!

2. What are your least favourite products of 2013?
Sadly enough, I wasn't overly impressed with Wet n' Wild products this year. There were a few items I bought (a few mascaras and a stay on lipgloss) and I was not flipping out over the quality. Granted, I've always found their products are a hit or miss, but this year was not great. Sorry WNW! I feel bad saying that because I really do enjoy the brand! To be more specific regarding a drugstore product, I picked up Cover Girl Bombshell Intensity Liner by LashBlast the other day because I'm always on the lookout for liners. It... was... terrible! It applied rather nicely, but it didn't try quickly, smeared on my eyelid and remained quite sticky. I was not impressed what so ever!

3. What is the best makeup bargain of 2013?
The best bargain I could think of is Julie G Nail Polish from Jesse's Girl Cosmetics. When looking at drugstore products, I want to get cosmetics at a reasonable price with awesome quality. I don't want a "get what you pay for" type of item. I really want to be impressed! Julie G Nail Polish has amazing colors, high quality polish at an awesome price! I have almost every color from all the collections and I cannot wait to see what they have to offer in 2014!

4. Show your best drugstore dupe for 2013.
I would have to say Milani Cosmetics Color Statement Lipstick in Sangria is a perfect dupe for MAC Lipstick in Rebel. I don't have a comparison photo because I don't actual own Rebel. However, I don't own it because I've seen photos and the comparison is pretty exact. No reason to spend the money if I have the exact same color and quality at home, right?

5. Which drugstore product did you buy in 2013 that wasn't worth the hype?
For the umpteenth time, I decided to give Maybelline Great Last Mascara another chance. I always see it in magazines listed as one of the best mascaras of all time and I could honestly say that I hate it! If you have it and love it, great! I know people that do and that's wonderful! I have very short, yet thick eyelashes and it just doesn't work for me and I know many who have the same complaint. I just don't get why beauty and fashion magazines name it the Holy Grail of mascaras. It boggles my mind!

6. What product wins your award for Best Drugstore Product of 2013?
EASY! While I did name Rimmel as my favorite overall makeup brand, the product of the year is not from their line of cosmetics. Sorry, Rimmel! The best drugstore product of 2013 is...::DRUMROLL PLEASE::

When Milani released their newly formulated lipsticks, people went nuts and the item practically flew off the shelves! I was fortunate enough to have all of the lipsticks sent to me for my review (Part 1 / Part 2) and I couldn't have been more grateful! Even if the items were not sent to me, I would have stocked up because some of the shades are just perfect! The reds and berries are amazing; and they released some of the most gorgeous nude lipsticks I've ever seen. And just a little sneak peek... Milani has SIX new Color Statement Lipstick shades coming out early this year!

And there you have it!!! It was a pretty good year for drugstore makeup! I am becoming more and more impressed with the quality and products that are being released. As mentioned, I try all types of cosmetics and comparing them all to each other is the fun part! Let's see what 2014 has to offer!

December Faves

Faves keep getting more and more difficult! There are so many products that I truly love and enjoy so narrowing it down is quite the task. I finally mustered up a few of my favorite products for the month so rather than a give you a long-winded introduction, let's just get on with it!

6) NYX Matte Lipstick in Alabama

** There is a reason 4 and 5 are together... read on :)

1) Lush Eau Roma Water
I consider myself to have very healthy skin and I attribute that to products like these. During this time of year, my skin gets very try around the nose area; so much that if I don't moisturize right out of the shower, my skin feels very tight and stings. After I shower, I have to spend at least 45 minutes blowing out my hair (I have very thick hair, so it takes time). Anyway, I hate applying moisturizer before blowing out my hair because I get really warm and can sweat and moisturizer tends to make it feel a bit more uncomfortable. If I spray a little bit of the Eau Roma Water on my face just before blowing out my hair, not only is it refreshing, but it makes my skin feel fresh and moisturized.

2) Sigma Warm Neautrals Palette from the Enlight Collection
When I received the very first Sigma Affiliate e-mail with this palette's product information, I knew I was going to love it! As a huge Sigma fan and affiliate, I have all of their eyeshadow palettes as it is, so it was customary to add this to the collection. Nonetheless, it's an incredible palette and perfect for anyone. The shades are extremely versatile as you can really tone it down or work it up with the gorgeous, pigmented, rich warm hues.

3) Maybelline Volum' Express Falsies Big Eyes Mascara
I was extremely leary about trying out this product because I really disliked the original Falsies Mascara from Maybelline. I remember it making my lashes look terrible and I've always steered people away from purchasing the item. I must apologize to Maybelline because I don't know if they formulated the product differently, but it's absolutely amazing! I love having the option of a dual-ended brush, but I honestly use the upper lashes end for the bottom as well. It makes my lashes look extremely long and full and I haven't been using anything else for several weeks now!

4 &5) Kat Von D Lock It Tattoo Foundation & Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation
Two very different types of foundation, yet mixed together it gives the coverage that I'm looking for. I honestly don't like mixing foundations because it just takes longer getting ready in the morning and I suppose I'm just lazy, but this combo is awesome! The Kat Von D Foundation gives full matte coverage and by mixing it with the UD Foundation it gives me a more natural, less cakey look. I'm not saying that the Kat Von D makes me look cakey, but during this time of year, when I have dryer skin, balancing it out with something a bit more hydrating certainly helps! I use Light 46 for the Lock It Tattoo Foundation and Shade 1 for the Naked Skin Foundation.

6) NYX Matte Lipstick in Alabama
Just...WOW!!! I cannot believe I only discovered this shade a few weeks ago! It's amazing! I have a few of the NYX Matte Lipsticks and I love them, but this Brick Red shade is just incredible. The Matte Lipsticks are great, but I wouldn't consider them completely matte. They're beautiful and pigmented, but has a touch of creaminess to them. Everything about this shade is beautiful and I made it the shade of the holidays!

7) Sigma Tapered Blending Brush (E40)
I always like to include at least one beauty tool in my monthly favorites, and it seems to always be a Sigma brush. I've mentioned before... I'm obsessed... affiliate or not! My everyday makeup look consists of red lipsticks, full coverage foundation and subtle eyes with winged liner. I usually take a shadow that matches my skin color and distribute it all over the lids, following with a light brown shade for the crease. I don't like the crease to be too prominent, but just enough to contour and give the lids depth. This brush is perfect for soft blending. A basic windshield wiper motion and my eyes look fabulous! I bought this brush for my sister for Christmas (it was included in the Make Me Cool Travel Set) and she said she never used a brush that blends that well. Needless to say, she is quite pleased!

6) Babyliss Ceramic Tools 1.5in Curling Iron
My hair has been in dire need for a change. I was getting so sick of the straight hair laying flat on my head and right against my face. Admitedly, I gained some weight, so the look starting to become extrmely unflattering. I have very thich hair that can be quite voluminous, however, I haven't been able to master the body without getting frizz. I turned to my Babyliss Curling Iron, which I bought months ago, but never used! I started creating beautiful, long wavy curls that lasts all day! I am still trying to master the technique so it takes me less time each morning, but I am certainly getting there and LOVE where it's going!

This is an iPhone selfie (I HATE that I take selfies)!
In this photo (which is not that clear) I have used my Sigma Warm Neutrals Palette (shades Oyster Sand & Cozy),
applied with my Tapered Blending Brush (E40) and rocking my Maybelline mascara; along with the Kat Von D and Urban Decay Foundation
and NYX Matte Lipstick in Alabama. And if you can't tell, I've used my Babyliss Curling Iron as well!
DAMN, I was on a roll that day!

And there you have it... my faves for December!!! I was only going to have seven, but at the last minute I remembered by beloved curling iron. Stay tuned for what I love in January. Perhaps the UD Naked 3 Palette will be there (that's if Sephora eventually has it in stock)!

Michael's Favorite Products
(in no particular order)

There are tons of trimmers out there on the market. I can say, with experience, that you get what you pay for.  This one is priced up there, around $65, but it does an incredible job.  It has numerous settings, so you can choose how short or long you want your beard to look.  Bonus it vacuums up the hair, so your sink doesn’t look like a disaster area when you are finished.

I sadly suffer from razor burn and ingrown hairs!!! I tried everything to get rid of them. Witch hazel, rubbing aspirin on my face??, and even toothpaste. I read in a magazine about this astringent that would clear it up. Dab some on a cotton swab after shaving and see your skin smooth out nicely. Recently, Harmon's has begun to sell it in their stores; before that you could only order it online. This too is really expensive, but it works the best.

So, I have really, really interesting hair.  I was blessed with a thick curly unruly mane.  I spent years using products trying to give a shape or design to my hair style, but to no avail. I stumbled upon this product on YouTube, and I’m not exactly sure what I was looking for??? Anyway, the pomade is no joke.  This will keep your hair in place, gives you a great shine, and will mold to any direct you want it to go.  However, it will stay with you for days after washing.
4) Generic Store-brand Baby Oil

I’m not being a pervert here with this one. (LOL) I tend to have very dry skin, especially on my face. I’ve used a lot of lotions and moisturizers. All of them, have some type of scent. I’m not a fan of smelling like lavender or mountain ice (Who knew that mountain ice would be a scent). I pour some on my hands and then rub it all over my face and neck. If you put too much on and your face looks too oily, just wipe it off with a towel. It’s that simple. The baby oil does a great job of well lubricating my mug; without any floral or “masculine” smells.

5) Generic Store-brand Hydrocortisone Lotion

When was in my teens I suffered from terrible eczema on my face. I was fortunate enough to go to the dermatologist and get that situation cleared up. On occasion, I do get some flair ups especially between my nose and lower eye lid.  This simple cream I rub it on the red dry patchy skin and it’s gone in a few hours.  This is not something I do every day, but it’s in my medicine cabinet just in case.

A mint masque? After I spent a good long time talking about girly smells that I just didn’t want on my face!  This product I will only use the night before a big event or party.  It’s very simple to use. Get it on all over your face and neck. It will harden up nicely. After about 30 minutes, wash it off with a hot towel. It leaves your face really soft, gives off a great tone, and most of your blackheads disappear. There is no scent to it at all, but make sure you wash it all off.  I’ve gone out to parties and people will come up to me and say that I have green makeup on behind my ear... I smile and tell them that I’m the hulk.

A very special thank you to Michael for this awesome post! Thank you for taking out the time to choose all of these fantastic products! Can't say I've used the Phillips Beard Trimmer, but I can completely vouch for the Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque! That stuff is awesome!

And one more thing, Michael...

Mixing Things Up: Engagement Rings with Coloured Stones (Guest Post by Danielle Croft)

While diamonds are the more traditional option when it comes to proposals, some women may be looking for something different. If you’d prefer a little more colour in your life, there are plenty of ring designs available that feature other gemstones such as sapphires, rubies and emeralds. With this diversity at your disposal, how can you make the right choice though? After all, this is an accessory that needs to be perfect seeing as it’s a symbol of your partner’s everlasting love for you.

Choose the Primary Gem

Seeing as the centre of attention will be the glittering stone sitting on top of your engagement ring, you’ll need to work out which colour and cut suits your needs best. The first step will be to make yourself familiar with the different types of gems available out there. From well-known varieties such as sapphires and emeralds to rarer stones like tourmaline and tanzanite, there is certainly plenty of choice.

To get a better idea of what’s on offer, browse a few online jewellery collections. In this way, you can find great ideas for engagement rings with coloured stones that will really make the proposal shine. If you’re curious about the types of gemstone cuts though, here is a list of the most popular now available at all good jewellers:

Of course, this is just a short selection of the styles available. The variety here is limited only by the jeweller’s imagination and skill, another reason why you should compare a few craftsmen before choosing these colourful engagement rings.

Single vs. Multiple Stones

Another choice that you’ll have to make is whether to include additional, smaller stones around your primary gem. Some designs use tiny diamonds to create a sparkling border around the massive ruby or emerald you’ll be wearing. While these added stones will cost you extra, the beauty and elegance of the resulting design will be well worth it for you and your future bride. Plus, you have statistics on your side as rings costing one month’s salary are reasonable to 35% of men and women! This means you don’t need to worry about whether you are being too extravagant. Instead, simply focus on the added beauty that these multiple gems will bring to the jewellery you eventually bring out for the proposal.

Matching Band Designs

You’ll also need to think about the band that will hold your sparkling, coloured gem. These can come in a wide range of designs, some which are more suitable than others. From plain golden bands to intricately woven platinum, there are countless options at your fingertips. This means you’ll need to compare designs and figure out which ones will be most suitable for the engagement. When shopping around, it pays to think about the following:
Source: babble.com
  • Whether the metal matches with the coloured gem you choose
  • If the thickness of the band makes it comfortable to wear
  • That the design of the ring complements the gemstone cut
The only way that you can be sure that you’ve made the right choice in jewellery is to shop around. Doing your research on the net is recommended as well as it is here that you can find inspiration such as Kate Middleton's sapphire engagement ring. In the end, take your time and you should locate the perfect piece for your proposal. This is a once in a lifetime moment, after all, so you should ensure the ring is something you absolutely love.

Colour and Grace

As you can see, it’s not too difficult to go out and purchase one of these alternative engagement rings. If your fiancée is unique and deserves more than simple tradition, adding a sapphire, ruby or tanzanite to her ring is an excellent idea. Fortunately, this new trend has now spread to jewellers around the world. No matter where you are, you should be able to find a beautiful gemstone ring that simply exudes colour and style. Because of this, all it takes is a little time and effort to find the perfect stone with which to propose to the love of your life. Show your true feelings in a unique manner with one of these colourful, vibrant gems.

Extraordinaire Gel-Lacque 1-2-3 from L'Oreal Paris

As I was browsing through Harmon Face Values a few weeks back out of boredom, I spotted the NEW Extraordinaire Gel-Lacque 1-2-3 from L'Oreal Paris. I'm not usually into drugstore nail polishes that claim to last a full 7-14 days like a professional gel mani, but since I'm an adventurous son-of-a-gun, I figured I would give it a shot!

"Introducing our exclusive 3-step nail system for spectacular nails like you’ve never seen before. New L’Oréal Paris Extraordinaire Gel-Lacque provides high-gloss, and resilient shine while protecting nail color from dings, dents and scratches. Get the high-shine of a UV-Gel and the perfect nail shape without harmful UV rays." - L'Oreal Paris Website

So how does it work? Quite simple actually!

1) Apply the Gel Primer to clean nails. The primer will instantly make the nail smooth and flawless for application.

2) Apply the Gel Color. Here is where the bad news comes in (well... not terrible news). I needed to apply 3 coats! The directions say to apply two, but the polish was way too sheer and I wanted the color to pop a bit more. I don't mind applying three coats of polish, I just prefer two like most individuals.

Coat #1

Coat #2 (with a teeny-tiny boo boo)

Three coats without the glaze (I accidentally messed up the middle nail)

3) Apply the Gel Glaze. I really loved this glaze! It made my nails dry super quick and provided awesome shine!

So overall... how was the manicure? Well... the color was gorgeous and the shine was incredible, so A+ right there. It did last four days, which isn't bad for me because I usually chip my nails around the second day or so to any manicure. Then again, L'Oreal doesn't give a duration as to how long the polish will last. I usually assume when I hear  the word "gel" in any type of manicure, that it will last at least 7-days, but that's just me. Since L'Oreal didn't promise me a time frame, I'm not going to get all tied up in false statements, because technically there isn't any.

Anywho... I really did like my manicure. Although I had to apply three coats, I can certainly let that slide. This is one of those systems, where if I wanted to go through a weekend guaranteeing no chips in my nails, I would use this set.

The L'Oreal Extraordinaire Gel-Lacque 1-2-3 retails for $7.99 and comes in 21 gorgeous shades! I can certainly see myself picking up a few more of these, so check my Instagram to see what color I decide to try next!
