NOW AVAILABLE: LUSH’s First-Ever Book Launch "Danger! Cosmetics To Go"

$

Danger! Cosmetics to Go is the story of the company that preceded LUSH Fresh Handmade Cosmetics and tells of the rapid rise and devastating fall of the dynamic cosmetics brand that revolutionized bathing and enchanted customers with innovative offerings, all well ahead of their time.

Despite its explosive arrival, Cosmetics to Go only existed for six brief years. Here, for the first time, the founders of LUSH share their thoughts and feelings on the beginning and end of their ill-fated first joint venture, revealing the truth behind attempts to save the company and its eventual collapse.

The book is a journey of invention, following the fortunes of this young company as they created new, ground-breaking products that transformed the cosmetics industry. Read all about the invention of the original Bath Bomb, shampoo bars and fresh face masks that have since gone on to become some of LUSH’s most iconic and best-selling products.

Featuring artwork and photography from the original Cosmetics to Go catalogue, this new book is an essential read for Cosmetics to Go customers and fans and anyone who wants to know more about the origins of LUSH.

About the Author:

Mira Manga is a musician and writer, best known as the ex-front woman of The Duloks and Disco Pistol bands.

Danger! Cosmetics to Go is her first literary adventure and she was commissioned to write it after Mark Constantine OBE, LUSH Co-founder and Managing Director, read some of her self-penned accounts of disastrous dating encounters that were illicitly passed to him by a colleague.

Having worked for LUSH since 2000, starting as Saturday staff in LUSH's Carnaby Street store in the UK (now sadly no more), she was given unique access to the founders of LUSH and ex-staff members of Cosmetics to Go on this historic project.

Manga splits her time between her Docklands flat in London and various hotels in Poole, the town of LUSH HQ.

Danger! Cosmetics to Go will be available at LUSH stores nationwide and online at www.LUSH.com as of November 14th for $29.95. Visit Cosmetics to Go on Facebook: www.facebook.com/cosmeticstogo.

A Note from Niki: I honestly cannot wait to get my hands on this book! As a true Lushie, this is a big deal and I'm super excited! I was going to put this book on my Christmas list, but there is no way I am waiting that long! I will be ordering mine by the end of the week!

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder Palette

For a little while there, I thought that owning the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette was not meant to be. For as long at it has been available at Sephora, I've had my eye on it, waiting for the right time to make the purchase. After several attempts to get my hands on this baby, I was having no luck! I won't get into the whole story because it is probably just as long as Frodo's journey to Mordor (beware, I'm unleashing my inner nerd), but the happily ever after consists of me successfully ordering the palette and loving it... my precious (there I go again).

Clearly, from my long-winded introduction, you know by now that this palette is incredible! The Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders are amazing to begin with, so putting them in palette form  was a wise move on Hourglass' part! People are going crazy over these state of the art products and I personally can't get enough of them.

First of all, the product's overall packaging and presentation is gorgeous. The palette is nestled inside a lovely metallic red and gold box, creating an elegant, high end feel. The palette itself is similar to all the other Hourglass products, which I like because I think the products are so classy looking. Some say the packaging is bulky, and while I agree with that just a tad, I love these products so much that if it came inside a box lined with aluminum foil, I'd be happy.

Inside are three highlighting powders, one of them being a limited edition shade available only in this special palette. The first shade, Dim Light (peach beige) sits on the left; the lovely little powder in the middle is Iridescent Light (opalescent pearl), the LE item; and lastly we have Radiant Light (golden beige). Each one of these gorgeous, highly pigmented, smooth shades make the skin glow, while giving it's own individual sense of warmth and radiance.

 From the left:
Dim Light, Iridescent Light, Radiant Light

 From the left:

Also - along with this palette came a sample sized Mineral Veil Primer, which is the most amazing foundation primer I have ever used (and I've tried my fair share of primers). I highly recommend this item! It's pricey, so don't go buy it right off the bat. Head to Sephora and request a sample! You won't regret it.

Right now the palette is no longer available, so some of you may be wondering why I am posting this review at all. First of all... I love it and simply needed to share my thoughts. Second of all, it may be released again... who knows... so once it is (or if it is) you'll be happy you saw this review. Third and lastly, like I said, the powders alone are amazing and come in six glorious shades, so be sure to check them out

I can’t believe it! The holidays are just around the corner! Time is going so fast and it just hit me that I need to start thinking about Christmas shopping! As someone who loves makeup, I personally enjoy when I get cosmetics and tools to help me master my practices and techniques. That’s why I figured a Holiday Gift Guide to my favorite makeup brushes was appropriate to share with my favorite people! Yes – I am an affiliate with Sigma, reason being that I stand by their product. I am a freelance makeup artist in addition to being a blogger, and quality makeup brushes are important to have. If you love makeup and take it seriously, then brushes like these are just for you!

While Sigma brushes are great to have and I highly recommend their products, I want to share a few of my favorite items. So here you go... the Ultimate Sigma Gift Guide:

Price: $20.00

My favorite brush for liquid foundations! It distributes the product flawlessly,
providing you with a natural look!

Price: $45.00

I actually do not own this brush, but I have been wanting it for so long!
Technically, I don’t “need” the brush, but it’s just too cool not to have!

Blending E25 Brush

A good blending brush is a must for anyone who does their makeup as much as I do.
This one is definitely a favorite!

 Chrome - $12.00Gold - $15.00 | Copper - $14.00

Tapered Blending E40 Brush

I have several of these brushes and love them! I use this one more than my E25 because my everyday look does not consist of precise blending, so this one is perfect
for distributing color quickly and efficiently.

Chrome - $14.00Gold - $18.00Copper - $16.00

Large Fluff E50 Brush

I love this one because my everyday looks consists of two colors; a skin tone shade that I distribute all over the lid and brow bone, and a slightly darker shade that I use to contour the crease. Simple! This large brush helps distribute the skin tone shade all over the lid and brow bone quickly and easily. It’s fool-proof.

Chrome - $14.00 Gold - $18.00 Copper - $16.00

Large Powder F20 Brush

I’m not sure why I am attracted to this brush so much. Granted, it is awesome for distributing powder, but I just love the full, hefty look of it! I’ve honestly been using it for
blush and love it. I just take a little dab and BAM, my cheek color is complete!

Chrome - $29.00 Gold - $36.00Copper - $33.00

Tapered Face Brush F25

This is the ultimate highlighting brush! I love the shape, I love the look, I love how it distributes.
I love it… enough said!

 Chrome - $29.00 | Gold - $36.00 | Copper - $33.00

Lip Brush L05

My newest recommendations… get a good lip brush! I feel like a lip brush in general helps the color last longer and buffs the product onto the lip more. This brush helps with even and smooth distribution and I carry one everywhere I go.

Chrome - $12.00Gold - $15.00Copper - $14.00

You want an ultimate brush kit? This is it! Twenty-nine incredible brushes! Yes – this set is quite pricey, so if you are going to buy it for someone, you have to really make sure you love them!

P.S. - You're Invited Book Review

As a young woman who is only now starting to embrace the concept of DIY projects, books like this are exactly what I need! I wasn't sure what this book was or what it was about until my time at Lucky FABB where I learned all about it and even had the opportunity to meet it's spunky author.

P.S. - You're Invited, by Erica Domesek, is a book complied of 40 DIY projects for all of your fashion, home decor and entertaining needs. Whether you are new to the do-it-yourself scene (like me) or experienced like Erica, this book is just what you need to spice up your work and change things up a bit!

Before I heard of this book, or Erica, I honestly had no interest in DIY, but her easy, yet fun projects are what gave me that "Yes - I can do this" attitude. Because of this book and meeting Erica, I now attempt DIY projects more often and even write about them.

I have not tried any of Erica's ideas just yet, only because I am trying to accomplish more holiday oriented projects at the moment, but as you can see, I have my handy-dandy pink post-its between the pages of the projects I am eager to try.

This book is filled with beautiful pictures, and step-by-step instructions that make it simple to do any project! Seriously... glitter spray and cardboard squares? Two items for a super easy DIY project and you produce some pretty cool results! Curious what I mean about cardboard and glitter? I don't want to ruin any surprises! You are going to have to check it out yourself! Bottom line, this book has made its way from my coffee table to night stand as I constantly skim through the pages seeking inspiration for my next project!

"Catching Fire" is Finally Here!!!

Today is the day! Catching Fire is here! I am a huge Hunger Games fan (as you all may know) and have literally been counting down the days for the film’s release. Granted, I won’t be seeing this movie opening weekend, as I don’t have the patience for fellow movie goers (I won’t get into that topic), but I will be seeing it within the next few weeks and I’m psyched!

Source: Ochoos.com

If you don’t know much about the sequel to Hunger Games, Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a "Victor's Tour" of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) - a competition that could change Panem forever. (description from IMDB)

I just can’t wait! Unlike the last film, I haven’t stocked up on Catching Fire film guides, magazines, etc., but I did indulge in a t-shirt and fleece blanket from Hot Topic! Oh… and I have a bone to pick with the blanket! Katniss, Peeta and Finnick are on the blanket. Why Finnick?!?! He is a likable character, but I would much rather have seen Gale, as I feel he plays a much more prominent role! There… I said it! It’s as if a weight has been lifted from my shoulders. Got to love my drama, huh?

See! Olive isn't thrilled either! She's covering Finnick!

Oh... and the makeup! HELLO!!!! The makeup for the movie is so awesome! It's so insanely wild and incredible and

AND... Cover Girl even released a Catching Fire Collection, so that's pretty awesome!!!

And one more thing I’m excited about, besides the compelling storyline… Jennifer Lawrence! I seriously love her… I want her to be my friend. Do I sound like a crazy stalker?  She is such a fabulous actress, plays Katniss extremely well, is stunning and funny as hell! What’s not to love? She’s my current girl-crush, so I can go on and on about her!

Okay – I suppose that is all. I consider this to be a pointless blog post because I have no decent or new information with you. I just needed to take a moment to express my excitement for Catching Fire! I’ll let you know how I enjoy the movie!

HAPPY FRIDAY...
And may the odds be ever in your favor!

DIY Elegant Thanksgiving Pumpkin

$

0
I was a big fan of painting pumpkins and Autumn projects this year. This time around, I wanted to step away from the typical DIYs incorporating Fall colors, like oranges, browns and deep reds. I felt like changing it up and doing something a bit more elegant. I saw a photo, similar to the project I am doing, on Pinterest and wanted to see if I can recreate it. Unfortunately, I do not have the link. I just remember seeing the photo and it obviously had a lasting impression on me because I was really excited to make this cream and gold Thanksgiving themed pumpkin.

Things you'll need (I can't believe I forgot to photograph the items):
  • Pumpkin (any size you want)
  • Ivory or cream colored paint
  • Gold paint
  • Paintbrushes
  • Gold scrapbook lettering OR letter stencils
  • Hot glue gun
  • Small flower or accessory of choice
  • Paper towels
  • Paper plate

1) Before you do anything, be sure that you wipe down the pumpkin with a paper towel. You don't want any dirt or debris to ruin the painting process.

2) Start out with painting the stem gold. Pour a small amount of gold paint onto the paper plate. Allow to dry for a few minutes before painting a second coat.

3) Pour a significant amount of cream or ivory paint and go crazy painting the entire pumpkin, being very careful around the top, so you don't ruin the detail around the stem. Allow to dry for about 20-30 minutes before painting the pumpkin with a second coat.

4) Allow pumpkin to dry overnight or even longer. I didn't have time to continue with the project the following day, so I waited plenty of time to start applying the letters.

You can do one of two things. You can paint the letters on with stencils, or you can buy adhesive scrapbook lettering and apply. I wanted to use the stencils, but I couldn't find anything that I liked, so I opted for the stickers. Apply gently to the pumpkin. As you can see, I used the phrase "Give Thanks".

5) Next, plug in your hot glue gun! Time for the icing on the cake. Find an elegant little accessory to glue onto your pumpkin. I found this adorable little cream and gold flower that I thought would look just right for this project!

6) Take a small amount of hot glue, and distribute it on the back of the accessory. Glue onto the pumpkin, holding the accessory gently for a few seconds.

7) Voila! You're all done!!!

Isn't it super pretty? Granted, my home is filled with the traditional Fall colors, so the pumpkin doesn't really fit in with the theme, but I thought it was so elegant, yet fun and I enjoyed changing it up a bit! Perfect and easy little project to complete your Thanksgiving decor!

It's Official...I'm Inked!!!

So I did something crazy this weekend. Crazy for me anyways. For many, it's no big deal, but I never thought I would go through with it. I got inked!

Yes... Miss Niki is now a tattooed chick! Sure, it's only one word on my right wrist, but to me it was a big deal. Me and pain don't go hand in hand. I'm a big baby, really, so I'm shocked to say that it wasn't nearly as painful as I thought.

Why did I finally take the plunge? First of all, I've always wanted one; second of all, my mother got TWO for her 50th birthday. My thought process? If she could handle it, so can I!

I wanted to get one with meaning. Granted, because I had a pleasant first experience, I will probably get one (or two) more that don't necessarily mean as much, but for the first time around, I wanted something I KNEW I wasn't going to regret.

Why Believe? When I got married, my father and I danced to "Believe" by Josh Groban. Not a common song for a father and daughter to dance to, I know. I got married on November 26 (tomorrow...YAY), so it was very close to Christmas, a holiday that has very special meaning in my family. Furthermore, that word was incorporated in my wedding beyond that song, which was purely coincidental, so the word is basically spiritual. Admittedly, I am not a religious person, but I do pray and believe in my own special way. Every since  I danced with my Daddy, every time we see the word "believe", we associate it with one another and it holds such an incredible meaning. Therefore, I knew that it was a tattoo that was going to mean more to me than just any other graphic or word on my body.

"Believe" by Josh Groban is featured in "The Polar Express"

The icing on the cake... I went with my Dad to get the tattoo and before I sat in the chair, he decided to get his fourth tat, but this time, with mine and my sister's name. How sweet, right?

I'm sure this won't be my last tattoo because now I am drawn to the concept, but I wanted to share why this one meant so much to me.

Shout out to Johnny from Lola's Tattoos in Bogota, New Jersey! Thanks for the beautiful tattoo! I promised I wouldn't pass out, and I didn't :)

And one more thing... today is my Daddy's birthday! I love you, Daddy! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

Happy Monday!!!

I Love You Because...

I've come to the point where I honestly don't know what to say about my husband, David. Today, we celebrate our 3 year wedding anniversary and each year I just fall more in love with him. David and I met in 2006 and from the moment we met (on a blind date, no less), we knew we were in love. From day one he was my love, my hero and my soulmate and each day my love for him grows. Things are not always easy and we have been through a lot in the past seven years, but what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger. Every experience, good or bad, is a rewarding one and I wouldn't want to go through it with anyone else.

David...

I love you because... you make me smile.

I love you because... you love me for me.

I love you because... you work hard for us.

I love you because... you are a dedicated individual.

I love you because... you make me laugh.

I love you because... you have taught me how to truly love.

I love you because... you're you.

Happy Anniversary!!!

BECCA The One Perfecting Brush

$

I was seriously impressed when I got an e-mail from iFabbo notifying me that the BECCA The One Perfecting Brush was in my shop. I had to re-read the e-mail at least three times for it to register. I never did anything with iFabbo, so what did I do to deserve such a high end brush? Well... I'm certainly not going to ask any questions, 'cause it's pretty dang cool! So thank you, iFabbo!

The BECCA The One Perfecting Brush is supposed to be a "true beauty multi-tasker". It is supposed to cut the overall makeup application in half by replacing these 10 tools: foundation brush, powder brush, countour brush, bronzer brush, stipple brush, blush brush, fan brush, concealer brush, kabuki and sponge. Meaning it is supposed to work with liquids, cremes, powders and anything in between. The non-porous, high-quality goat hair allows products to sit on top of the bristles, rather than absorb, ensuring a seamless application, with no wasted product. That being said... does it work?

It's a great brush. However, I, personally, wouldn't use it as for everything under the sun. Let's start from the beginning. I'm getting ahead of myself.

First of all, if I'm being honest, it the barrel feels a bit cheap. I have yet to compare it to the one on the shelves in Sephora, but perhaps, since this was a sample, the barrel is a bit different. I'm not exactly sure, so I'll have to update you on that. I would expect it to be real heavy duty, but it's hollow and plastic-y. Other than that, it's a really good brush. Like I said, I wouldn't use it for everything, like the description claims, but for contouring and highlighting it's really fantastic. The bristles are soft  and seem to hold the products, so that is a plus!

I used the brush for liquid foundation the other day, and I found it a bit awkward because it was too big and obviously difficult to get into the tiny, detailed places, like the sides of the nose and under the eyes. It applied the foundation nicely, but I felt like I needed more time with another brush to fill in all the hidden spots that this couldn't cover. Granted, when it came to applying down the neck, it was a dream! Using a beauty blender or brush to blend application into the neck is such a pain in the you-know-what, so this was really a special treat. I did enjoy the brush much more when I contoured my cheek bones, as it held the bronzer perfectly and applied it beautifully.

The BECCA The One Perfecting Brush is available at your local Sephora and online at Sephora.com for $49.00.

Overall, a great brush, but wouldn't pay $49.00, since I would only use it for contouring. For hardcore makeup artists that do a lot of work with the entire body, not just the face, I would strongly recommend this brush. Clearly, it covers more than most brushes, so if you did special effects makeup, for example, this brush would be a huge help!

Tons To Be Thankful For...

Today is officially the day where my favorite time of year begins! Thanksgiving is the official kick-off to the holiday season, a time where my emotions are high and I am truly thankful for all that I have. I believe that we should be thankful all year round, and I truly am, but sometimes life gets in the way and we all forget how truly blessed we really are.

I am going to take a moment to tell a little story, and by all means I am not looking for attention or a pat on the back. I'm telling it to simply demonstrate the power of the holiday spirit.

The other day at work, while walking to the cafeteria for lunch, I was stopped by a colleague asking if I wanted to sign up and buy a toy for a child. I don't think it was Toys-for-Tots, as I had to put my name next to an age and gender of the child. I usually do something like this each year, so I signed up for two toys, a boy and a girl, ages 5-7.

I decided to run to Target that afternoon to buy the toys. I usually pick out a barbie doll and an action figure of some sort, pay and then leave. As I was walking through the toy isle, I saw this 30th Anniversary Holiday Cabbage Patch Doll. She was absolutely beautiful. Everything in me wanted to get her for the little girl, but I just kept walking. After a few isles more, I stopped and it hit me. The power of the holidays overcame me and my emotions were high.

FYI: I just ordered her on eBay!!!
When I was a little girl, I remembered having a Cabbage Patch Doll holiday edition Happy Meal from McDonalds. It was the early '90's, so I had to have been 5 or 6, and I just remember being attached to this little doll. She was no more than 4 inches tall, had brown hair and blue eyes, just like me; a pink nightgown, blue bunny slippers and held a teddy bear. I remember being at my grandparent's house, watching TV during the holiday season and holding onto this little doll. She made me so happy. Years went by, and as I got older I obviously forgot about the little doll, but the memory of her came to me at that very moment. How special would this little girl's holidays be if I got this beautiful doll? Perhaps one day, she will reflect and it will be more than just a toy, but a memory of her childhood. I imagined her little smile and started tearing up in the middle of the Target toy isles.

I ran back and grabbed this beautiful doll and then picked out the coolest Iron Man toy I could find, hoping that there will be a little boy who will enjoy this gift the same way this little girl would. I walked to the register, still tearing up as Christmas music played in the store.

Yes - I know... this is more of a Christmas story, but this story made me feel thankful for all that I have. I reflected and thought about how much I love my husband, who loves me for who I am and who works hard to make ends meet; my parents, who love, support and would do anything for me; my sister, who is my best friend... who I can rely on for a good laugh and hug when I need a good cry; my dog... my 65lbs of love that never leaves my side and is and forever will be loyal to me; my nephew, who has grown so fast and whose smile lights up my life. I have all four of my grandparents, loving in-laws, a new brother-in-law who takes care of my sister, another brother-in-law and sister-in-law who are simply amazing and incredible parents. I have awesome friends who I love with all of my heart; and co-workers who are extremely helpful and see my true potential. Sure, I have days when I am down, but in the end, when you really think about it... I have it all and I am extremely thankful and gracious for every aspect of my life.

I love my incredible husband, David!!!

Let's do this!!! My sis and I moments before she walked down the isle!

My amazing and beautiful parents!

My Olive! And let's not forget my precious little niece, Bella!

My love!!! That smile makes my heart melt!!!

My brand new Bro-In-Law to the right! Welcome to our crazy family!

You know... just zombie-killing pirates and a cameo from Uncle Si...

This little girl and little boy will never know who I am, and I will never know who they are, but just knowing that this gesture could make their holidays a little brighter, made me feel the true power of the holiday spirit.

To all of my family, friends and followers who celebrate this day... Happy Thanksgiving!

Let us not forget the men and women who serve and dedicate their lives to our country!

And... on a less serious note... let's not forget how fabulous my nails look!!!

Holiday Candle Time!

The most glorious time of year is here! Once Thanksgiving rolls around, I am ready to kick-off the Christmas season! Time to break out the decorations, bake cookies, drive around and look at lights! I love it, along with all of the traditions that go with it! One of my favorite aspects of the holiday season… the scents! Every time I smell pine or evergreen, it makes me happy. Due to my obsession with the aromas of the holiday season, part of my house smells like a tree farm. I have candles everywhere and I figured I would show you the ones I have placed all over my house!

My go-to store for holiday candles… Bath & Body Works! I adore their candles all year round, so throw in some fabulous, fun fragrances and I’m all over them! My favorite BBW candle of all… Winter Candy Apple! I wear the body spray almost 365 days a year because I love it that much. I am shocked that I didn’t buy more candles this year, but one is good enough… for now!

Also can’t forget about my beloved Twisted Peppermint and Mint Chocolate! Both so sweet, both so delicious and both make my house smell INCREDIBLE!

Some may not know this, but you don’t have to spend buku bucks on nice smelling candles. No, no! My favorite reasonable candles have to be Glade! They really do work great and the Sparkling Spruce Jar Candle brings back all those holiday memories.

I honestly can’t remember where I got the Southern Candle in Christmas Tree from. I just remember buying it months ago and being drawn to it because of its fresh cut trees scent. How does it burn? I’m not exactly sure yet. I just know that it smells great, so hopefully it packs a punch!

You’re always safe with a Yankee Candle! They’re the best, right? They have so many holiday scents, the choices are endless! I picked up Holiday Berry and Sage at Christmas Tree Shops a few months back. It was on sale, so how can I go wrong?

Lastly – these candles are the best if you want that outdoorsy, traditional Christmas tree smell. Every year, I go to American Candle in Bartonsville, Pennsylvania. The place is huge and has the most amazing candles! I’m surprised I don’t go bonkers in the place. When I go, my husband and I have to splurge and buy Woodwick Candles. It’s exactly how it sounds… candles with a wooden wick. Not only is this the ultimate Christmas candle, but the wood actually crackles. If you close your eyes and listen, you can hear it and it makes you feel like you’re sitting next to a fire place. I love the feeling.

Now that the holidays are here, be prepared for tons of Holiday posts! I can’t get enough of Christmas-time, so I intend to enjoy every moment of it!

UPDATE: Just a 'lil FYI... I decided to take advantage of Bath & Body Works' Cyber Monday Sale and stocked up on even MORE candles! YAY!!!

The Enlight Collection from Sigma Beauty looks absolutely amazing! I am a huge fan of Sigma's palettes and have all of them, but none of them are quite like this. Usually their palettes include very unique and vibrant colors, but this one is simply perfect for toning it down or working up a classy, elegant look.

The Enlight Collection includes an array of products with a new take on neutrals. The collection contains one eyeshadow palette, three lip glosses, three eyeliners, three eyeshadow bases, three powder blushes and three eye brushes.

This collection is set to launch Monday, December 9! I can't wait!

Santa's Lip Scrub from Lush Cosmetics

Ho-Ho-Holy Cow! I was not expecting to fall completely head-over-heels for Lush Cosmetics Santa’s Lip Scrub. I knew I was going to love it since I enjoy all of Lush’s Lip Scrubs already, but this one... WOW! I purchased this baby a few days ago and was not planning to do a full review on it; but I love it so much and needed to share my thoughts with the world!

Me and Lush… we’re like two peas in a pod; peanut butter and jelly; spaghetti and meatballs! You get the idea! I love them and everything about their products. I walk into a Lush and they know me. I feel so famous! My local Lush store representatives even notice when I change my hair or cut my bangs. They even recognize my husband! It’s rare that I have a negative thing to say about Lush… in fact, I don’t think I ever had anything bad to say. That’s always good, right?

Okay… enough with my little Lush rant, back to the review! This little jar of scrumptious goodness is perfect for smoothing and softening chapped lips. It’s cold here in New Jersey and my skin and lips tend to take a beating during this time of year. Yesterday, I noticed that my lips were extremely dry no matter how many moisturizing lip products I apply.

I’ve tried several Lush scrubs and love them all, but I feel like this one is different! The sugar exfoliates your lips and removes the rough, dry bits, while the coconut oil moisturizes for that soft supple feeling.

It’s amazing! I put a little bit of the red sugar scrub (with little red hearts!) on my finger and gently scrubbed away. I then washed it off (licked some of it off) and applied my favorite lip balm. OH-EM-GEE, my lips were healed! They were full and soft and you would never think it was December in New Jersey.
And you want to know one more thing? I’m saving the best for last. Ready for it? Are you sure? It’s cola-flavored! BAM!!! Seriously delicious and incredibly yummy! Part of the delicious flavor and color comes from the extract of cherries and dates. Fancy, shmancy!

So can you tell I’m obsessed? Yeah… kind of disturbing, I know. When I find something I love, I’m all over it. I think I am going to pick up one or two more of these because I need to have this product all year round!

November Faves

November picks were a bit difficult to choose this time around. Not sure why. I think it has to do with the fact that I’ve been enjoying every product I own lately, which is a rare occurrence. Well, after much thought, I narrowed my faves down to six. Not bad, eh? So let’s go!

1)     Rimmel London Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation
3)     Lorac Pro Palette (Light Bronze shade)

Rimmel London Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation
Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation hasn’t actually hit stores yet, but when it does, I suggest you get your butt out there and pick up a tube! Influenster sent me this amazing foundation to review and I can’t get enough of it! I love the texture, I love the coverage, I love everything! See my review HERE.

Sigma Beauty F80 Flat Top Kabuki Brush
The Sigma F80 Brush has always been one of my top 5 makeup brushes. However, I stopped using it for a little while there. I like to bounce back and forth between a beauty blender and brush, just to refresh my mind about how much I love the other. A strange process, I know. I decided to push the Beauty Blender aside for a bit and rekindle my relationship with the F80. I’m glad I did. This brush is just amazing and there are so many bloggers in the beauty community who adore this tool!

Lorac Pro Palette (Light Bronze shade)
The Lorac Pro Palette has always been a favorite and while I love the palette overall, Light Bronze has been my favorite lately. About a week or two ago, I decided to not use my beloved black liquid liner. I wanted to go for a more simple, natural look and decided to use this shade on the lids. It is more golden then bronze and it brightens up my eyes perfectly. I’ve had issues finding a nice gold for my lids and I think I’ve finally found it and it’s been right in front of me all along! I reviewed this palette this past January. See the review HERE!

Clinique A Different Nail Enamel in Black Honey
Clinique’s A Different Nail Enamel in Black Honey has to be my new “go-to” polish. Not only do I love the color, but the longevity! I know that if I apply it on a Thursday evening, that it will last me through the weekend with no chips or anything. I know that I will have gorgeous deep nails that remain perfectly manicured for days! The best part… it’s a shade that I can rock all year round!

Jordana Cosmetics Lip Liner in Plush Plum
I love trying out different liners, expensive and cheap, and this product proves that you don’t need to spend a lot to get quality! Jordana’s Lipliner in Plush Plum has to be my favorite liner, probably ever! It does make my lips a tad dry, but not enough to make me dislike it. It applies beautifully, is highly pigmented and the deep berry color is right up my alley.

Lush Cosmetics The Comforter Bubble Bar
At the end of the day, nothing beats a relaxing, beautifully smelling bubble bath! The Comforter Bubble Bar from Lush Cosmetics is my all-time favorite bath bar, and I’m sure you know based on my Instagram that I’ve tried my fair share of bubble bars. This one is my “go-to” bath product and I love it. Not only does it smell amazing, but I can get at least four baths out of one bar. I just cut it in fours and a quarter of the product goes a very long way!

Laura's Etsy Holiday Gift Guide

I’m not sure exactly when Etsy launched, but I can track my account back to 2008. In honor of 5 Years of being a member, I thought I would put together a little Etsy Appreciation post. For any that aren’t in the know, Etsy is an e-commerce website which focuses on vintage and handmade items. Over the years they have greatly expanded their vendors to include those which provide crafting supplies and even some factory-made items.

Being an artistic person myself, I try to go to Etsy first when looking for a unique gift for someone. Supporting someone’s small business or side-job makes me feel SO much better than chucking my money at a big-box store. I’ve gotten everything from my wedding veil to knick-knacks, a vintage handkerchief, lots of jewelry, a custom journal, unique art and SO much in-between.

I can’t say enough good things about Etsy and I hope you’ll consider going this route this holiday season. In fact, I’ll even throw together a little Gift Guide for you!

MOM: I think its a rule that Mom's love monograms. Why not get her one of these super-classy classics?

DAD: Ooft. Dad's are hard. But, I know my dad would be happy to give any of these a try.

BROTHER: Make him laugh and get him these. **P.S. I actually bought these myself a few years ago. Deviously awesome fun.

SISTER: Something pretty, something sparkly. She's your sister after all. I've gotten several things from this shop. Love it all.

Shop Edor

GRANDMA: Who are we kidding, of course Gran would love this hand-made hot water bottle cover for the cold winter days ahead!

GRANDPA: Take the strain off holding heavy books, or working on a puzzle with this cool customizable handmade lapdesk. I wouldn't mind one of these myself! Choose the finish that best suits him.

BEST FRIEND: Well, these are the coolest things I've ever seen. I can't think of ONE of my friends who wouldn't LOVE getting these.

BOSS: You can't go wrong with a cool desktop calendar like this one. A word to the wise- when buying things like cards or printed items look out for words like 'Printable' or 'PDF Download'. You'll just be buying the file, not the finished item. In some cases, this is great, esp if you have a really tight-budget and a good home-printer.

HUSBAND: Last year, I had the guy from this shop make my husband the most beautiful/cool valet tray for his keys/wallet/etc. Give this man your business. He was amazing to work with and created something really special. (I even offered to design him a new shop banner and he gifted me two of his gorgeous business card holders as a thank you.)
*Just click: 'Request Custom Order' on the left and let him know what you're looking for. Let the creative process begin!

WIFE: As a wife myself, I'll go out on a limb and say there is almost nothing on this entire page of planters that I don't like!!

NIECE/NEPHEW: Show me a kid, young or old who wouldn't have fun with this. Heck show me a HUMAN who wouldn't have fun with this!

FIDO/FEE-FEE: Laugh in the face of winter-weather with this. And for the the more genteel species: Cat-nip fortune cookies of course.

I'm quite proud of my 30-somethign Etsy purchases. And it's rare for me to fell GOOD about spending money on stuff!

Layla Ceramic Effect Nail Polish for the Holidays

I idolize red nail polish for the holiday season. A friend of mine wanted me to try a purple nail polish the other day and I turned it down because I pretty much wear nothing but red when it's Christmastime!  So when GlamAlley.com asked me to pick out two Layla Ceramic Effect Nail Polish for my review and evaluation, I knew I had to go with red so I can come up with a festive look.

The Layla Ceramic Effect Nail Polish perfect nails in a single action. Shiny, smooth nails thanks to the "ceramic effect" of the polish's special density and thickness. This Hi Shine Nail Polish does not need a base coat, and the top coat is optional. Neither will the polish stain your nails yellow. Applies easily and smoothly and is quick drying and long lasting. All Layla nail products are free of toluene, camphor, formaldehyde and DBP.
  • Formaldehyde free
  • Opaque, shiny coverage
  • Easy to apply with no cracking or bubbling
  • Quick drying
  • Not tested on animals

The first color I chose was Oh My Red (CE 40). This gorgeous, classic red is creamy and extremely wearable for any look, whether it's low key gathering or fancy cocktail party. The formula is absolutely fantastic. I did put a base coat, even though the description states that I don't have to. However, I did not put on a topcoat because I planned on putting a coat with an effect on top. The photo below is one coat of the polish and NO top coat. Very impressive!

The second polish I chose was CE53, which I thought was called Rudolph, but I can't seem to find it on the website anymore. Perhaps it was discontinued. I googled CE53 and the shade Killer Red popped up. Not sure what happened to Rudolph, so I'm all confused right about now. Anywho... this mystery shade has a red/ruby opal glitter flake effect. Sounds pretty cool, right? Just look at how it sparkles?

Sorry... can't get a great photo of the actual effect, but trust me when I say it's pretty cool. I think I am going to try another look putting this on-top of a black or deeper red. We'll have to see. However, a bright red shade and this polish is just perfect for the holiday season! Talk about festive!

So these polishes are great. Love the formula. Very thin, yet packs a huge punch! Love it and must try some more colors!

Layla Ceramic Effect Nail Polishes are available at GlamAlley.com for $10.95.

I feel like I am the only person in the world that has not heard about this collection! Apparently I've been living under a rock. As I was flipping through the pages of InStyle magazine last week, I saw an advertisement for the Gwen Stefani OPI Collection. I practically stared at the ad for a good 30 seconds… I had to let it process. Gwen Stefani + Nail Polish = A crazed fan who will sleep with these polishes by her bedside. That’s right… ME!

I am a huge, huge, HUGE Gwen Stefani fan! I’ve seen No Doubt in concert about 5 times and Gwen on her solo tours twice (or maybe 3 times). I love her and she is, and forever will be, my ultimate girl crush. A few weeks ago, a co-worker complimented my outfit stating “You are channeling Gwen Stefani today!” Seriously the best compliment I’ve ever received. It made my day… I even tweeted about it! Yes… I'M CRAZY!
Anywho, I love my nail polish launches, but this one is special and I don’t think I’ve been this excited about a collection in a very long time. I have that “must have it” attitude and I plan to get my hands on every single item in this collection.

OPI joins celebrity partner Gwen Stefani in announcing seven new limited edition nail lacquers for 2014, featuring standout color in breakthrough finishes. Highlights from the collection include a bold red lacquer that pays homage to Gwen’s signature lipstick, a new semi-matte satin finish in shades of gold and black, and a mirrored chrome paired with a special base coat.

Gwen’s signature red OPI hue – Over & Over A-Gwen– is available in a boxed set, which includes Swarovski black crystals and silver, gold and pewter studs in bar, square, diamond and circle shapes for creating unique nail designs, as well as nail glue for easy application. Love.Angel.Music.Baby. and 4 in the Morning feature a new, semi-matte satin finish designed to be worn without top coat. Push and Shove, a bold chrome hue, is also worn without top coat but requires a special complimentary base coat – Lay Down that BaseOne thin coat of Lay Down that Base topped with two thin coats of Push and Shove yields an intense, mirrored finish. The collection is rounded out with two glossy crème lacquers and one sparkly glitter shade: Hey BabyI Sing in Color, and In True Stefani Fashion
